Abstract
1504209 Monitoring AC motors SIEMENS AG 7 March 1975 [8 April 1974] 9713/75 Heading G1U A circuit arrangement for monitoring the speed of each A.C. motor of a multiple motor installation and the determination of the speed of an individual motor by measuring the frequency of the regenerated current when the supply is disconnected and the motor terminals short-circuited is described. Current transformers 22-24 are used in one phase of each motor 2-4 provide a signal f 2 sequentially through a pulse shaper 32 to comparator 21 in angle comparison circuit 19. A reference phase signal f from the motor supply is applied through a pulse shaper 20 to comparator 21 so that the phase difference between these signals can be used to produce an output signal #2. The signal #2 is compared with a fixed potential from potentiometer 34 and depending on its level produces an output on line S indicating a synchronous operation or an output on line S2 indicating synchronous operation. The existence of asynchronous operation may be signalled by a visual 35 or audible 36 alarm or the signal applied to data processor 37. The counter 9 sequences the stepping switch 29 and affords an indication of which motors are running asynchronously. The actual speed of each motor may be determined in cases where the power supply fails, e.g. by a malfunction of frequency charger 14, by closing the switch 40 and measuring the frequency of the regenerated current signal detected by the negative current transformer in counter 41.
