Abstract
1503887 Apparatus for sheathing pipe with weight material D GARDNER 21 May 1976 20994/76 Heading B2L Apparatus for coating a pipe with weight material, e.g. concrete, comprises a roller 20 approximately below the path of a pipe 50 to be coated and carrying a conveyor belt 16, means 12 for receiving and dispensing by gravity flow a supply of weight material on to the belt 16, and means to move belt 16 so as to carry material from the dispensing means toward the pipe, the material being compressed between the belt and pipe and thus coating the pipe. Pipe 50 is moved helically, a plate 52 prevents concrete from falling off belt 16, movement of the pipe and/or conveyor 16 serves to draw a reinforcing mesh 22 and an outer wrap 24 helically around the pipe, and an adjustable backing plate 36 prevents sagging of the conveyor belt. Movable plate 30 adjusts the amount of concrete on the conveyor belt as shown, and the vertical height of mesh 22 in the layer is adjustable also. The head of concrete slurry in hopper 12 and a vibrator 70 serve to expel air bubbles from the coating. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) means are provided to off-set the outer wrap 24 relative to the coating material, a supplementary belt being provided to hold the edge of the coating until it is overlapped by the outer wrap of the next helical turn.
