Abstract

1502863 Wet separating; settling T MOORI 2 Oct 1975 [2 Nov 1974 21 April 1975] 40296/75 Headings BID and B2H An apparatus for recovering classified sand from muddy water or for removing both sand and mud to leave clear water comprises a rotatable drum 1 having an outlet at each end, means 2 located concentrically within the drum for feeding muddy water containing sand into the drum, means for transferring sand which settles to the bottom of the drum towards the rear end of the drum, and means for discharging the transferred sand through the rear outlet B. The inner wall of the drum is provided with a plurality of helicoid blades 7 some of which have baffle plates 16 secured thereto. Blockade plates (33) Fig. 5 (not shown) are secured to and between each pair of adjacent blades 7. At the rear end of the drum is a plurality of paddles 8 having apertures 9 and formed by extensions of the blades 7. The feed pipe 2 has a plurality of apertures 5 at its rear end. In use, the muddy water introduced into the rotating drum through the pipe 2 flows over the baffle plates 16 and leaves the drum through the front outlet A. The sand particles settle to the bottom of the drum and are transferred to the rear end of the drum by the blades 7. At the rear end the sand is lifted by the paddles 8 and dropped onto a cone 10 having partitions 12 which directs the sand through the outlet B.
