Abstract

1502415 Testing automatic exchanges PLESSEY CO Ltd 24 March 1975 [8 Jan 1974] 00896/74 Heading H4K A telecommunications exchange includes a quality of service monitor which operates an alarm if the quality of service provided by the exchange, i.e. the proportion of call attempts that are successfully completed, falls below a predetermined minimum standard. As shown counter MS is advanced one stage in respect of each call attempt, in response to a signal from central control c. MS has one hundred stages, and delivers an output signal when re-set to zero at the end of each cycle. A failure counter FP is advanced one stage in respect of any call which fails, and is re-set to zero by the output signal from MS. At stage 40 of FP a tapping is taken off to a prompt alarm p. Hence if the count in FP reaches 40 before the count in MS reaches 100, indicating a failure rate of at least 40%, a prompt alarm is actuated. The MS/FP combination monitors peak conditions, i.e. a small sample of 100 calls. Another counter combination AS/FA monitors average conditions, i.e. a sample of 1000 calls. AS is a ten stage counter and is stepped on one stage by the output from MS, while FA is advanced one stage in respect of any failed call. The AS/FA combination functions in the same manner as MS/FP, except that a failure rate of 2À5% in a sample of 1000 calls actuates a delayed alarm d.
