Abstract

1502376 Fire alarms NOHMI BOSAI KOGYO CO Ltd 5 May 1975 [25 Aug 1974] 18749/75 Addition to 1485790 Heading G4N A fire sensor includes sensors OX, TH1 responsive to two different phenomena accompanying combustion and coupled to an analogue multiplier Am arranged to provide a signal dependent on the arithmetic product of the signals from the two sensors. As shown, sensor OX is responsive to CO. and comprises a semiconductor having a heater and a further electrode h. Thermistor TH1 has a smaller thermal time-constant than thermistor TH2 so that the voltage at their junction is a function of rate of change of temperature. After passing threshold devices D1, D2, ZD, the signals are applied to an analogue multiplier Am which, if the product is sufficiently large as to indicate a fire, turns on transistors T3 ... T5 which energize alarm relay N. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the CO sensor OX is replaced by a photo-electric smoke detector. The system is supposed not to respond to cigarette smoke or to the vapours from newly applied paint.
