Abstract

1502336 Vehicle lighting systems BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AG 13 May 1975 [13 May 1974] 20194/75 Heading H2H The headlamp lighting system of a road vehicle comprises a relay which controls the dipped beam filaments of the headlamps, the arrangement being such that as the system is switched from dipped beam to main beam lighting the dipped beam control relay remains operated. Movement of the switching member 5 of a lighting switch 1 to the drive position II causes contacts 8<SP>1</SP> to be connected together in groups for the normal lighting of a vehicle whilst simultaneously connecting contacts 6, 7 together whereby to cause energization of the coil 15 of a dipped beam relay 3 so as to close contacts 16, 17. With a main beam/dipped beam/headlamp flasher switch 2 in the centre position a the coil 12 of a main beam relay 4 having change-over contacts remains unenergized, the movable contact 20 thus being in contact with contact 21. Dipped beam filaments 28a, 28b are thus energized over contacts 20, 21; 16, 17 from a supply terminal 23. If the switch 2 is moved to the right hand position b, the coil 12 of the main beam relay 4 is energized causing contact 20 to move to contact 22 whereupon main beam filaments 33a, 33b are thus energized from terminal 23 the dipped beam circuit over contacts 20, 21 being broken but the dipped beam relay 3 remaining energized. Movement of the switch 2 to the left hand position c causes energization of the main beam relay 4 to flash the main beam filaments 33a 33b irrespectively of whether the switch 1 is in a position to cause energization of the dipped beam relay 3 or not the dipped beam relay 3 remaining energized however, should the switch 1 be in the position II when the headlamps are flashed. The system includes a potentiometer 8<SP>11</SP> for dimming the panel lamps of the vehicle. Terminals 13, 23, 19 are only supplied when the ignition switch is ON. A second embodiment is disclosed with opposite polarity supply to that in Fig. 1.
