Abstract

1502318 Mechanical switches; contacts STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 29 April 1975 17743/75 Heading H1N In an electric switch one or more electrically conductive balls 25, Fig. 1, are mounted in a carrier 21 by which they are moved to selectively bridge between pairs of resilient fixed contacts 26, 27 having circular cut-outs 32, Fig. 6, in which the balls are located. The actuator 13 is pivotable on a seat 18 and carries a spring-loaded rod 16 having roller 19 engageable in a recess 20 of the carrier 21. Modifications are described in which a ball is carried by a rectilinear slide to engage between contacts arranged in a straight line or by a radial arm for engagement with contacts arranged in an arcuate path. The fixed contacts may comprise rigid terminals and mountings, 28, 29, Fig. 6, carrying spring contact portions 30 secured by welding, brazing or riveting. The portions 30 may be punched or stamped from phosphorbronze sheet and may have the edges 32 plated with contact material.
