Abstract

1501683 Measuring physical parameters SCHLUMBERGER Ltd 9 April 1975 [9 April 1974] 14490/75 Heading G1N [Also in Division E1] A centralizer has an elongate body 20, leafsprings 51 articulated at their upper ends to the body and adapted for movement axially of the body at their lower ends, and a rigid arm 53 articulated at one end to an intermediate point 52 of each spring, the other end of each arm being articulated to a member 54 slidable along the body. The leaf-springs are biased outwardly by means of a spring 56 acting on the member 54, and the leafsprings are provided with stiffening members 35, 62 at their ends. The stiffening members 35 each have a nose 37 which engages in a slot in a slidable sleeve 33 in the body, and the sleeve is connected to a variable resistor so as to give a reading of the sleeve position and therefore the diameter of the borehole. Irregularities in a borehole casing, such as collars, are detected by the provision of magnets 74 on the leaf-springs and a magnetic detection coil 71 in the body. In an alternative embodiment, Fig.5 (not shown), the centralizer is provided with a flowmeter. The flowmeter has a screw (103) comprising blades (110) which are pivotable about horizontal axes, the blades being pivoted inwardly when the diameter of the borehole is less than a predetermined value.
