Abstract

1500915 Indicating brake failure GIRLING Ltd 20 June 1975 [3 July 1974] 29417/74 Heading F2F A differential pressure warning indicator comprises a piston 7 which is displaceable to actuate a switch operating member 25 through a lever 17 and two opposed diaphragms 8, 9, each engageable with a respective end of the piston 7 and with the wall 11, 12 surrounding the piston bore of a chamber 3, 4 connectible with a respective hydraulic braking circuit. When a fault in a circuit has been repaired the restored pressure, acting on the full effective area of the outwardly displaced diaphragm, centralizes the piston 7. The switch operating lever 17 is pivoted in a recess 18 of the housing, and in a bore 16 of the piston and is urged by a spring-loaded piston 20, which produces a friction force on the adjacent lever end, so that a predetermined pressure differential is needed to displace the piston, and prevents the piston returning to its mid position until a fault has been repaired. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the piston is slidable in a sleeve (32) located in a blind bore (31) of the housing by an apertured convex disc (34). In a further modification slotted discs, which assume a conical shape when the piston is displaced, are disposed between the diaphragms and the walls 11, 12 of the housing 1 and engage the spigotted ends of the piston 7.
