1500738 Furnace black DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 27 Feb 1975 [6 March 1974] 8221/75 Heading CIA Atomized liquid feedstock and fuel gas are introduced into a furnace-black reactor provided with a constriction, by means of a burner/injector combination in which the liquid feedstock is introduced through an inner tube with an outlet nozzle, a gaseous atomizing medium is introduced through a jacket tube with a conical taper in front of the inner tube outlet nozzle; and the fuel gas is supplied by an outer jacket with 4-12 gas outlet openings distributed over 360 degrees such that the fuel gas pressure in the burner exceeds 15 atmospheres, and the fuel gas outlet velocity is at least 320 ms<SP>-1</SP>. The number of gas openings and their size is preferably selected to give a fuel pressure of 2-6 atmospheres. The free diameter of the injector outlet nozzle is generally from 40-75% preferably 50-65%, of the free diameter of the jacket tube through which the atomizing medium is introduced. It is advantageous for the feed pipe of the feedstock injector to terminate in the conical part of the jacket tube, and for the interval between the injector opening and the end of the outlet nozzle to be 60-120% of the diameter before the conical taper of the jacket tube through which the atomizing medium is introduced. The constriction gives favourable results when the cross-sectional area of the reactor is reduced to a third or less, preferably to “-1/10, of its previous cross-sectional area. The average particle size, iodine adsorption, ash residue, and pH value of a carbon black, produced according to the invention, are given in the example.
