Abstract

1500706 Valves GIRLING Ltd 16 April 1975 [4 May 1974 14 Aug 1974] 19701/74 and 35717/74 Heading F2V A valve has an inlet 17 for connection to a pump, an outlet 16 for connection to a hydraulic accumulator supplying a vehicle braking system, and-an outlet 23 communicating with a steering system or with a reservoir, the accumulator being charged through a non-return valve 21 until the pressure at the outlet 16 is sufficient to displace a differential piston 8 and a valve 26 against a spring 27 to connect the pump to the outlet 23. In the embodiment, illustrated, a pressure drop is produced by a restriction 20 while the accumulator is being charged and the valve 26 is slightly open. In a second embodiment, the valve 26 is replaced by a ball closure and a further valve (44) upstream from the inlet 17 provides a direct connection between the pump and the power steering when the valve 26 opens. A third embodiment employs a spring-loaded valve (53) Fig. 3 (not shown) for charging the accumulator, the valve 26 being partially opened as the valve 53 approaches its seat.
