Abstract

1500500 Steam separator CLARKE CHAPMAN Ltd 8 Dec 1975 [17 Dec 1974] 54520/74 Heading BIT [Also in Division F4] A steam/water separator apparatus (e.g. for use in nuclear powered steam generating plant) comprises a vessel 10, steam/water mixture inlets 18 leading to perforated pipes 16, a scrubber assembly 14 which receives the mixture ejected from the pipes, and a perforated baffle 12 through which separated steam passes to an outlet 24. In the arrangement shown each inlet 18 feeds three pipes 16 and each pipe is perforated to direct mixture against the internal vessel wall so that the mixture stream reverses direction towards the assembly 14. Upright hollow columns 60 support superimposed scrubber units 62 and water separated from each unit is directed along a base plate of the unit into the adjacent columns and then within the columns via inclined plates to output 22. The units 62 comprise sets of zig-zag shaped plates of thin metal and each unit is inclined to the vertical.
