Abstract
1500174 Making drawing; extrusion; moulding and like dies VOLVO AB 23 May 1975 22752/75 Heading B3A A method of making a deep drawing, moulding, extrusion or like die comprises making a working model 10 of the die of plastics, wood, wax or the like, coating the model with a release agent 11, spray coating the model with an easily fusible metal or alloy layer 12, applying a heat resistant plastics reinforcement 13 to the layer 12, which is baked on to the layer, to form a spray model, removing the working model 10, applying a wear resisting coating 14 to the layer 12, applying a heat resistant backing 15 to the coating 14 and heating the so-formed assembly to melt the layer 12 thereby separating the die from the spray model. The exposed sprayed surfaces are somewhat uneven thereby improving the adhesion of the reinforcement 13 and the backing 15 to their respective metal layers. The coating 14 is of a metal or alloy, e.g. steel, a carbide or an oxide and it adheres closely to the bores in the surface of the layer 12.
