Abstract
1500157 Combustion gas generators for inflatable devices NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 29 Aug 1975 [30 Aug 1974] 35694/75 Heading F1L The invention relates to a combustion gas generator for use with an inflatable container such as a safety cushion of a vehicle, an inflatable lifeboat or an inflatable escape shoot for an aircraft. The gas generator comprises a casing 12 having a plurality of openings 18 formed in the wall thereof, a porous partition 20 being disposed within the casing so as to define a combustion chamber 22 and a cooling chamber 30. A pyrotechnic gas generating material 24 and an ignition device 26 are located within the combustion chamber, and a cooling material 32 is disposed within the cooling chamber. The porous partition 20 is formed either from mesh screen or from sintered porous ceramic. A second porous partition 28 is disposed adjacent the inner surface of the wall of the container formed with openings 18, this partition also being formed of mesh screen or sintered porous ceramic. In Fig. 2 the combustion chamber 22' is defined at the lower part of the casing by means of a partition 20' in the form of a disc, the gas discharge openings 18' being formed in the closure 14' of the container, a partition 28' being disposed adjacent the inner surface of the closure 14' and defining with the partition 20' a cooling chamber 30'. The gas generating material 24 may be a mixture of sodium azide and potassium perchlorate; the cooling material may be iron, aluminium, alumina or magnesia. The mesh screen may be a woven mesh, a spiral mesh, a knitted mesh or expanded metal, the material being either iron, tungsten, stainless steel or plastics.
