Abstract
1500002 Transducer circuits PLESSEY CO Ltd 22 May 1975 [28 Feb 1974 20 April 1974] 9043/74 and 17411/74 Heading H4J In an arrangement for reproducing sound in a noisy environment a single transducer is switched rapidly between operating as a microphone and operating as a reproducer, with the noise picked up during operation as a microphone mixed with the signal to be reproduced during operation as a reproducer so as to cancel the noise at the point of reproduction. As described a transducer 1 is alternately fed with a signal to be reproduced through gate 4 or feeds a signal corresponding to the noise incident on the transducer through a feedback gate 5, with the gates being alternately rendered conductive at a frequency above the Nyquist sampling rate for the signals of interest. The noise signals after passing through a filter 6 which compensates for the characteristics of the transducer and the sampling, is subtracted from the input signal for application to the transducer 1 via filter 3, which can include amplification, and the resulting signal reproduced. The arrangement may be applied to a transducer located in a pilot's protective helmet to improve communications intelligibility in aircraft.
