Abstract

A circuit for suppressing audio frequency noise in a signal originating from a gramophone record. A known noise suppressing circuit comprises a signal processing section including a delay circuit coupled between an input and a noise suppressor. Where noise is being suppressed, the noise suppressor by-passes the delay circuit for a fixed period of time. During this time, if noise does occur on the input, it cannot be suppressed. This problem can be overcome by providing a circuit including a signal processing section (9) arranged between an input (1, 2) and an output (3, 4). The signal processing section (9) is provided with a delay unit (7) and a noise suppressor (8) coupled to the delay unit (7). The circuit also comprises a control signal section (10) connected to the input (1, 2) which section is provided with a noise detector (32) which is coupled by a function generator (34) to a control input (49) of the noise suppressor. At the occurrence of noise the audio signal derived from the record is suppressed inaudibly during a short constant period of time. (Figure 1).
