Abstract

1499924 Powder recovery system for electrostatic spraying TYCOATE INTERNATIONAL Ltd 9 June 1976 [10 June 1975] 24760/75 Heading B2L An electrostatic coating apparatus comprises a spraying device (not shown) operable to eject electrostatically charged pulverulent material in an air stream, a recovery system (not shown) for collecting excess sprayed pulverulent material, a housing 16 for collecting recovered pulverulent material, a detector 34 adapted to detect the amount of material collected in said housing, and means responsive to the detector to suck pulverulent material out of the housing and convey it to the spraying device. Oversprayed material is fed to a cyclone separator 14 and thence to housing 16, where a member 34 reciprocates such that it can detect when the powder level reaches the level shown; when this level is reached, a delay circuit 36 opens solenoid valve 32, allowing an air stream to pass through pipe 28 and venturi 26, causing reduced pressure at outlet 20, and thus sucking powder 18 along line 22 to cyclone separator 24 which feeds the powder to hopper 10, this being the feed hopper for the spray gun, where the recovered powder joins the main supply of powder 12.
