Abstract

1499763 Burners MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 20 Feb 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 7189/75 Heading F4T A petroleum burner comprises a fuel tank 10, having an unoccupied space 32 above the surface of the petroleum, a vertically elongated wick 36 whose bottom end is located in the tank, and whose top end is vertically-movable on a guide structure 38, and valve means 50 operative to provide communication between space 32 and atmosphere, in response to an increase in gas pressure in space 32. Fuel tank 10 is divided into main and auxiliary chambers 22, 24, connected by apertures 30. A means 47 is operative when the apparatus is tilted, so as to lower the wick downwardly and extinguish the latter, at which time the gas pressure builds up in space 32, and valve means 50 opens to reduce said pressure. Means 50 may include a pivotable valve closure 60 which is normally held against a seat 54 due to its own weight. In a modification, the valve closure is formed by a hollow ball (90) Fig. 4 (not shown). In a further modification, the valve comprises a hollow rubber element (92) Fig. 5 (not shown), the element having a slit (94) which opens to release the gas when the latter reaches the predetermined pressure.
