Abstract

1499140 Reducing vehicle engine noise; ventilating engines MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG AG 7 March 1975 [11 March 1974 9 May 1974] 9589/75 Headings B7B and B7H An engine 1, clutch and transmission 2 disposed within vehicle body walls 7 is enclosed in a chamber, one side wall of the chamber providing an engine access opening and the other side walls being spaced from the vehicle body wall. The chamber comprises a rear wall which coincides with the vehicle rear wall 18 and provides the access opening, side walls 5, 6 which define with the body walls space for ancillary equipment, a front wall 8 and detachable bottom wall 9. The chamber top wall may be formed by the vehicle floor 3. The chamber and vehicle walls may be covered with sound insulating material. A fan 3 and radiator in duct 4 passes cooling air through opening 24 to the chamber. The air passing out through a gap 28 at the lower front edge of the chamber. The chamber may be provided with ventilating louvres which may be automatically or manually actuated.
