Abstract

1498963 Overbed tables METAL FABRICATORS Ltd 28 Aug 1975 [4 Nov 1974] 47666/74 Heading A4H A telescopic structural member 3, e.g. for supporting a table top 4 on a base 1, comprises an inner slider 5 comprising at least two spaced-apart parallel tubes 8 rigidly connected by means 10 intermediate their ends and extending between their mutually facing surfaces, and slidably housed within an elongate outer casing 6 having spacedapart wall portions 12 substantially in sliding contact with respective outward facing parts 13 of the tubes 8, the portions 12 and parts 13 being matchingly shaped. The tubes 8 have a square, circular or triangular cross-section, and the parts of casing 6 joining wall portions 12 comprise sides 14, perforated strips or spaced ties. Tubes 8 are connected by spaced ties 10. The table top height is variable by a screw and nut mechanism 15, 16 operable through bevel pinions 17, 18 by a manually rotatable drive shaft 19. A threaded portion 22 of the shaft non-rotatably carries a nut 23 that is slidable between end stops 25 to limit movement of top 4. Alternatively the top 4 can be adjusted by a rack and pinion.
