Abstract
After separating out the non-reclaimable waste components, the remaining fraction comprising paper and plastics is further separated into paper and plastic particles by air classification. Before this further separation is carried out, the material is moistened, the paper, but not the plastic material, absorbing moisture. The specific weight of the paper, which before moistening corresponded approximately to that of the plastic material, is thereby increased to such an extent that a reliable separation in the air classifier can take place. An optimum separating effect can be obtained at approximately 40-60% moisture content of the paper. The device is designed such that a moistening device (21) is arranged downstream of a first air classifier (11) and of a screen apparatus (18) which sorts out relatively large waste parts and by means of which the aforementioned fraction is sorted out. Downstream of said moistening device (21) there is a second air classifier (24) which effects the paper/plastic separation. <IMAGE>
