Abstract

1498004 Plant growth regulation MALAYASIA RUBBER RESEARCH INSTITUTE BOARD OF 12 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973 (2)] 59495/73 and 59496/73 Heading C1B A composition comprises an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid or anhydride and/or dimethyl sulphoxide and/or glycerol which assists in releasing volatile or gaseous growth regulant adsorbed on a particulate solid also comprised therein. The growth regulant may be ethylene, acetylene, propylene, CO, or a halogeno paraffin, the absorbent a zeolite, silica gel, or activated charcoal. The adsorbent and regulant preferably comprise, together, 2À5-55 wt. per cent of the composition, the remaining specified component comprising 0À5-15%. The composition may also comprise a fluid (viscous) medium, and/or a surfactant. The plant is preferably a tree or shrub, e.g. a fruit or rubber tree, and the composition is applied to the bark and may be covered by a protective layer.
