Abstract

1497816 Controlling wheel spin ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 20 March 1975 [26 March 1974] 11586/75 Heading G3N Wheel spin in an accelerating vehicle is prevented by comparing the speeds of a driving and non- driving wheel on the vehicle and producing a pulse train whose frequency controls the engine torque which pulse train is interrupted when spin is detected and is resumed at reduced frequency for a preset time after the wheel spin condition has ceased. Preferably the pulse train is used as a clock pulse in the fuel injection system of the vehicle engine. In the arrangement shown, pulse trains on lines 40, 41 from the driving wheels pass through a 'highest wins' circuit 50 and a divider 53 to one input 56 of a comparator forming threshold stage 58 and pulse trains on lines 42, 43 from the non- driving wheels pass through 'highest wins' circuit 52 to the other input 57 of comparator 58. When wheel spin is present comparator 58 produces an output which passes through OR gate 72 and amplifier 66 and is used to inhibit the supply of fuel to the engine thus reducing the driving torque. In order to provide a reduced torque when wheel spin ceases the frequency of the pulses from the ignition contact breaker on line 32 is halved by bi-stable 81 and applied to NAND gate 77 together with the output from monostable circuit 68 which responds to the disappearance of the output signal from comparator 58. The circuit responds to inhibit alternate pulses to the fuel supply system for a period set by monostable 68 thus allowing the torque to be restored gradually to the driving wheels.
