Abstract

1497813 Rotary heat exchanger BETEILIGUNGS AG FUR HAUSTECHNIK 11 March 1975 [18 March 1974] 10058/75 Heading F4S [Also in Division F1] A rotary heat exchanger comprises annular fins 1<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>1</SP> around a hub (shown at the bottom of the figure), the fins being traversed by tubes 5 which carry heat exchange fluid. The tubes are attached to a disc 4 attached by spokes 25 to the hub. As shown, the disc 4 together with the tubes and three rings 1, 2, 3 of annular fins rotate around the axis of tubing 7. The rotation causes radially outward flow of air. Between the fin rings 1, 2, 3 are a ring of fins 21 and a ring of blades 20 secured to a stationary disc 9. The stationary fins 21 and blades 20 affect the air flow so as to improve heat transfer. Some of the rings of fins are out of radial alignment with each other to similarly affect the air flow. In the following figures (not shown), the apparatus is modified. As illustrated in Fig. 4, the above mentioned rotating disc 4 is stationary whereas the stationary disc 9 rotates; in Fig. 1 the stationary disc, together with its blades 20 and fins 21, is omitted; and in Fig. 3 the stationary disc, together with its blades 20 and fins 21, is replaced by another rotating disc having attached thereto fluid flow tubes and rings of fins, the two discs rotating in opposite directions. In further modifications, the rings of annular fins are replaced by helical fins.
