Abstract

1497610 Automatic control systems RYAZAN FILIAL SPETSIAIL KONSTRUKTOR BJURO PO AUTOMATIKE V NEFTEPERERABOTKE I NEFTEKHIMII 10 May 1975 19748/75 Heading G3R [Also in Division C5] In a process in which crude petroleum is mixed with water for subsequent de-salination and de-hydration by an electric current between electrodes 6, 7 energized from a transformer 9, the ratio of petroleum to water is controlled by adjusting the water flow in response to the amplitude and frequency of current pulses which occur just prior to electrical breakdown. It is desired to operate the process at a point close to, but safely short of, electrical breakdown. The pulses are detected by differentiating at 10 a signal corresponding to electrode current. The output of 10 is applied to graded threshold devices 11 1 ...11 n whose outputs are connected to pulse counters 12 1 ... 12 n . 11 1 and 121 are set at the desired magnitude and frequency (i.e. number of pulses in a time set on a timer 13), and the others at progressively higher values. If the pulses are below all the thresholds a "setting pulse generator" 14 is operated which, via a frequency divider 15 and controller 17 increases the water flow in steps via control loop 18, 20, 21 until the threshold of 11 1 is exceeded. This inhibits 14 so that no further change takes place. However, if the thresholds of 11 2 -11 n are reached a "negative correction device" 16 is activated to decrease the water flow, in steps, at a rate determined by how many thresholds have been exceeded.
