Abstract
1497411 Optical tracking BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 28 February 1975 [4 March 1974] 9639/74 Heading H4D In optical search and track apparatus, e.g. for tracking a target from a missile, the light image P 1 , P 2 or P 3 , Fig. 2, from the target falls on a detector comprising an outer or search quadrant set of elements A, B, C, D, Fig. 1, and an inner or track quadrant set of elements a, b, c, d. During an initial search made (with image P 3 ) the signals from both elements in the same quadrant, e.g. a and A are summed and used in producing correction signals for the missile in azimuth and elevation, whilst once the image has been brought on to the inner set of elements a b c d (e.g. images P, or P 2 ) the signals from the outer set of elements A, B, C, D are no longer used in the production of the correction signals-e.g. the azimuth search correction signal is given by and the track signal is given by The size of the image is made equal to that of one of the inner elements by diffusing the focused point image Fig. 4 (not shown).
