Abstract

1346145 Photo-electric tracking ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL CORP 20 July 1972 [2 Aug 1971] 34058/72 Heading H4D [Also in Division F3] In a tracker system a television sensor is initially slaved to an operator's line of sight for target acquisition and, upon acquisition, connected to control means for automatic tracking of the target. An operator helmet 11 is provided with photo-cells 12, 13 co-operating with light sources 24, 25 to provide helmet attitude signals and hence line of sight 18 signals at 46, e.g. as in Specification 1,138,851. A cathode-ray tube 14 projects, via an optical assembly, the scene detected by the television camera on slewable platform 30, which is mounted on the weapon, on to a screen 16 placed along line of sight 18. Initially, switch 40 is depressed and this provides enable signal 41 to slave platform 30 in azimuth and elevation to helmet 11. The television video signals are fed to tube 14 together with a lock on signal 51 to indicate visually when the target is correctly placed on aiming lines generated on the screen (Fig. 8, not shown). When the target is so placed switch 40 is released and a lock-on signal 42 is generated to enable tracker electronics 44 to automatically track the target by operating platform 30, e.g. as in Specification 1,251,004.
