1497285 Lubricants for polymers HOECHST AG 30 Dec 1974 [29 Dec 1973] 56055/74 Heading C3P A composition comprises a chlorine-containing polymer and a lubricant therefor, the lubricant being one or more of the compounds: (a) a mixture of straight-chain aliphatic saturated monocarboxylic acids, each acid having 20-50 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain, the mixture having an acid number of 100-140, and the mixture having been prepared by oxidation of two or more α-olefins having 22-52 carbon atoms with a chromic acid/sulphuric acid mixture; (b) an ester of (a); (c) a metal soap of a partially esterified acid mixture (a); or (d) a product of the partial saponification of an acid mixture (a), and having an acid number of 5-30; compounds (c) and (d) having as cation one of the metals Mg, Ca, Ba, Cd, Zn, Al or Pb. The composition may comprise 0À2-4% by weight of the lubricant, based on the weight of the polymers present. The polymer is preferably polyvinyl chloride, optionally including chloropolyethylene and/or polyvinylidene chloride. The ester (b) of the acid mixture (a) may be derived from monohydric aliphatic alcohols having 12-18 carbon atoms or from dihydric aliphatic alcohols with 2-6 carbon atoms. Compounds (c) and (d) may be prepared by reacting incompletely esterified acids or the free acids, respectively, with an oxide, hydroxide or carbonate of Mg, Ca, Ba, Cd, Zn, Al or Pb. In examples: acid mixture (a) is a fatty acid mixture prepared by oxidation of a mixture of α-olefins having 30-48 carbon atoms; ester (b) is the product of reacting the above acid mixture with trimethylol propane; metal soap partially esterified acid (c) is prepared by incomplete esterification of the above acid mixture with ethylene glycol, followed by neutralization with Ca(OH) 2 ; and compound (d) is prepared by reacting the fatty acid mixture with Ba(OH) 2 .
