Abstract

1497274 Two-part couplings PRESSAC Ltd 22 April 1975 [29 April 1974] 18549/74 Heading H2E A female contact comprises a resilient part 7 biased towards a wall portion 1a of the contact but restrained by a catch 8 which is displaced by a male contact to release the resilient part which then springs against the male contact pressing it into engagement with the wall portion 1a. The contact is folded from a single piece of brass into an open ended box-like part 1 with the resilient part 7 folded back therein and the T-shaped catch 8 being pressed out of the floor of the box part; crimping portions 2, 3 are included. The male contact (Fig. 6, not shown) comprises a blade (6) of double sheet thickness chamfered at its leading end which pushes the bar of the T-catch 8 clear of the portion 7 on engagement. Both contacts have a resilient detent (6b, 16a) which engage respective housings (11, 19) for mounting. The housings are resilient plastics mouldings of generally rectangular shape with housing (11) being received into housing (19) on mating. On the outside of the sidewalls of the housing (11) are wedges (22) and on the end walls resilient latches (23, Fig. 8); on mating the wedges (22) engage free flexible portions (21) of the side walls of the housing (19) and until mating is complete, when latches (23) snap-engage catches (25a), the resiliency of the housings tends to spring them apart so that if mating is not completed the housings separate.
