Abstract

1496794 Cap liners J DUKESS 22 Jan 1975 [24 June 1974] 2712/75 Heading B8T A container closure device in the form of a cap 122 comprising a cylindrical sidewall formed integrally with a top, and having therein a liner material in the form of a disc, the liner comprising a first layer 130 of low density polyethylene having one face exposed and its other face secured to a second layer 132 of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer which has one face bonded to the top of the cap and its other face secured to the first layer, the first layer being less resilient than the second layer and the second layer being compressible, in use, to form a lip protruding beyond the periphery of the first layer, the second layer being from 12 to 40 times the thickness of the first layer. The liner may be made by co-extrusion, the polyethylene preferably being extruded at a temperature of 300‹ to 400‹ F. and the copolymer at 222‹ to 320‹ F., the two layers being combined within a die maintained at about 300‹ F.
