1496759 Cephalosporin derivatives GLAXO LABORATORIES Ltd 20 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 37006/77 Divided out of 1496757 Heading C2C Novel compounds I (R is H or methyl) and salts or derivatives thereof, the compounds being syn isomers or mixtures of syn and anti isomers containing at least 90% of the former, are prepared by reaction of a compound II or a salt or N-silyl derivative thereof with a compound III in the form of an acylation agent (B is S or SO; R<SP>19</SP> is H or a blocking group and R<SP>20</SP> is a blocking group) or by carbamoylation of a compound IV followed where necessary by conventional modifications. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound I together with a diluent or carrier and are useful as antibiotics.
