Abstract
1436977 7-Alkylthioacetamide cephalosporin SMITHKLINE CORP 4 June 1974 [4 June 1973] 24715/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds of the Formula (I) wherein R is C 1-6 alkyl; M is H or an alkali metal or ammonium cation; and A is CH 2 SHet, where Het is a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring containing 2 to 4 atoms selected from N, O and S, unsubstituted or substituted with one or two groups selected from C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy- C 1-4 alkyl or CF 3 , are prepared by acylation of an aqueous solution of the sodium salt of the appropriate 7-aminocephalosporanic acid nucleus, where A = CH 2 SHet, with an appropriately substituted alkylthioacetic acid chloride. The 7-aminocephalosporin compound where A = CH 2 SHet is prepared by known methods from 7-aminocephalosporanic acid and the appropriate heterocyclic mercaptan compound. Pharmaceutical compositions possessing antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms comprise compounds of the Formula I together with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier.
