Abstract

1496439 Pressure furnaces ASEA AB 5 May 1975 [7 May 1974] 18649/75 Heading F4B In an electrically heated pressure furnace having a high pressure cylindrical chamber (2, Fig. 1, not shown) comprising an inner tube 30 which is closed at its ends by upper and lower members (11 & 13) and surrounded by a prestressed sheath 31 formed by winding wire or metal strip under tension around the tube 30, cooling channels 39 are provided within the sheath 31 or between the tube 30 and the sheath 31. As shown the tube 30 is surrounded by an annular layer of axially extending rods 33 having bevelled outer edges 37 which together with a steel tube 36 define the cooling channels 39. Cooling fluid, e.g. water, is supplied to and discharged from the channels 39 via ducts 46 and annular spaces 45 provided in end rings 40 which are fixed with respect to the tube 30 by means of locking rings 41. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), the cooling channels (51) are defined by a layer of circumferentially spaced apart rectangular rods (50) located between layers of strip material comprising the sheath.
