1496352 Cigarette packet MOLINS Ltd 27 Jan 1975 [28 Jan 1974 18 Oct 1974] 3945/74 and 45315/74 Heading B8C A packet for smoking articles such as cigarettes comprises a single wrapper made from a substantially rectangular blank of thin waterproof material folded to form a top 118- 120, a bottom 101, two large faces 102, 103 and two narrow sides 104-106, a reinforcing panel at the inside of each narrow side, each panel having an upper edge positioned substantially at the top of the respective side and being secured to the interior of the wrapper at least in the region of its upper edge a tear line 123 formed along the top of each large face, a tear guide strip 122 secured over each tear line, and a tear tab 120 on the wrapper top. The panels form parts of a V-shaped reinforcing strip S and are of a width slightly greater than the depth of the bundle of cigarettes, the edges being curved to the radius of the cigarettes. The tear lines 123 are preferably cut just prior to the formation of the top closure of the pocket and the strips 122 secured over them. The outside of the reinforcing strip S is preferably coated with hot melt adhesive and is adhered across the middle of the wrapper to form a composite blank prior to erection of the packet. Either the areas of the wrapper to be secured together or the whole of the wrapper may be covered by hot melt adhesive. The wrapper may be of polypropylene, polyester or cellulose and may be coated with polyvinyldichloride and internally printed with a brand name. The reinforcing strip may be a laminate of paper and aluminium foil, the foil facing outwards.
