Abstract

1496026 Drying webs by suction WP EVANS & SON Ltd 22 Oct 1975 [4 June 1975] 24165/75 Heading F4G [Also in Division D2] A suction box 11 for use in dewatering a web of material has an apertured supporting belt 14 and a plurality of bands 21 interposed between the apertured surface of the suction box and the upper run of the supporting belt, the bands 21 being apertured and these apertures being in line with those 13 in the suction box and 17 in the belt. The belt is supported on rollers 15, 16 and the bands 21 extend around roller 16 and (in this embodiment) around a semi-cylindrical skid 24. Individual drive means may be provided for the belt and bands but generally this is not necessary as they are moved by the wire screen which supports the web. The bands are preferably laminated with a layer of PTFE or similar material in contact with the suction box supported by a carrier layer, for example, of fibre-reinforced vinyl. Alternatively, the bands may be of stainless steel, the apertured surface of the suction box consisting of PTFE or similar material. Specification 831,975 is referred to.
