Abstract

1495489 Level sensing device CONTRAVES AG 19 Dec 1974 [20 Dec 1973 30 May 1974] 55041/74 Heading G1N A level sensing device comprises a receptacle having within it a liquid and an electrode with which the liquid can come into contact, movement of the liquid being capable of affecting the impedance of an electrical path including the electrode, which comprises a thin film formed on a substrate and of a thickness below 5Á and generally on the range of from .01 to 1Á. A bin level comprises a glass box 11 the base 12 of which is covered by an electrode 44 comprising superposed layers 41, 42, applied by vaporization, of 0À15Á thickness Ni Cr alloy, and 0À02Á thickness gold, respectively. Four electrodes 40 similarly formed and shaped and arranged as shown in Fig.5 are provided on the inner surface of the cover 2 which is bonded to the box 11. The latter is filled with a solution of lithium chloride in ethanol, leaving a gas bubble 7. The electrodes are inter-connected by external circuitry e.g. to form a resistance bridge. Alternatively the electrodes 40 Fig.4 (not shown) are circular discs. In another embodiment the arrangement of Fig.1 is upside down, the cover 2 being disposed beneath the box and supporting a drop 8 Fig.6 (not shown) of mercury which constitutes the conducting liquid within the box and moves relative to the electrodes on tilting of the box.
