Abstract
1495432 Pressing at specified temperatures; forging MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 6 Jan 1975 499/75 Headings B3H B3Q and B3V Metallic material capable of undergoing solid state phase transformation with change in temperature is rendered superplastic by cyclic heating and simultaneously subjected to a light pressing or forging force. A triangular temperature-time cycle is used, with the temperature ranging between 50-200‹ C. of each side of a transformation point and a frequency of 3-5 cycles per minute for forming times of 5-8 minutes. For stainless-steel plate the temperature cycles between 1050-1150‹ C., for a eutectoid steel the temperature is 600-850 if AC1 is used or up to 950‹ C. if AC3 is jointly used. The plate is heated by resistance or H.F. induction, and cooled by compressed-air. Forming is effected between dies although in some case the weight of the plate is sufficient without pressure from the upper die. A hammer for noiselessly forging a workpiece 6 by the process comprises upper and lower dies 7, 8 which are connected (not shown) to an electric supply, and a surrounding chamfer 15 containing a cooler (not shown). The ram 2 is actuated by gas pressure in a chamber 1 and returned by posts 9. Springs 4 support the body 3 of the hammer and an ejector 10 is provided. Specification 1,495,431 is referred to.
