Abstract
1495093 Suspension stabilizers for vinyl chloride polymerization WACKER-CHEMIE GmbH 26 Jan 1976 [27 Jan 1975] 02837/76 Addition to 1162574 Heading C3P Vinyl chloride is homo- or copolymerized in aqueous suspension in the presence of (1) sodium chloride in an amount of 0À03 to 0À05 wt. per cent based on the monomer(s), (2) a copolymer of (a) maleic acid or anhydride, (b) a compound of general formula in which X is -O-, and n is an integer not less than 4 and (c) a compound of general formula CH 2 =CHR in which R is phenyl,-OC m H 2m+1 or in which m is 1, 2 or 3 and (3) 0À003 to 0À0007 wt. per cent based on the monomers, of a polyvinyl alcohol with a viscosity of 3-10 cP (4% aqueous solution at 20‹ C.) and a saponification number of 220-320. In the examples, component (2) is a copolymer of maleic anhydride, vinyl acetate and vinyl "Versatate" (Registered Trace Mark) a vinyl ester of an alpha branched saturated acid. The parent Specification relates to a process using only component (2).
