1495067 Polypropylene fibres IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 July 1976 [1 Aug 1975] 32290/75 Heading B5B Polypropylene yarn having a shrinkage of less than 1% when subjected to a dry cleaning process using trichloroethylene at 65‹ C. is formed by either fibrillating a film of polypropylene having a melt flow index of from 0À1 to 15 g/10 mins. which has been drawn to a draw ratio of from 10 : 1 to 25 : 1 in the case of a film formed by a cast film process or of from 10 : 1 to 20 : 1 in the case of a film formed by the air cooled tubular film process or by fibrillating a film made by extruding a polypropylene having a melt flow index of from 0À1 to 7À5 g/10 mins. into film by either using a cast film process and an extrusion temperature of 260‹-90‹ C. or a tubular film process and an extrusion temperature of 230‹-260‹ C. (when the melt flow index is below 3 g/10 mins.) or an extrusion temperature of 200‹-240‹ C. (when the melt flow index is 3 g/10 mins. or above) or by melt spinning a polypropylene of melt flow index of 0À1-7À5 g/10 mins. at 240‹-300‹ C. and in any of the above processes optionally annealing the formed yarn at 140‹-200‹ C.
