Abstract
1495059 Asphalt composition LION OIL CO 11 Dec 1975 [13 Dec 1974 11 Nov 1975] 50820/75 Headings C3N and C3P A composition comprises at least one solvent extracted hard asphalt having a penetration at 77‹ F. of 0-10 mm./10 and a softening point of 165-215‹ F. and at least one polyhydroxy polymer which is an addition polymer of 0-75% by weight of a C 2-12 alpha-olefinic monomer and 25-100% by weight of a C 4-12 1,3-diene hydrocarbon and which has (I) an average of at least 1À8 predominantly primary, terminal, allylic hydroxyl groups per molecule, (2) a viscosity of 30 ‹C. of 15 to 5000 poises, (3) the majority of its unsaturation in the main carbon chain and (4) a number average molecular weight of 400-10,000. The composition may also contain a mineral filler suitably in an amount from 10 to 30% by weight and with a mesh size of-325 U.S. standard screen. Suitable fillers are limestone, sand, silica, clay and slate flour. The composition may also contain a tertiary amine catalyst, e.g. methyl dioctadecylamine. The polyhydroxy polymer is preferably a hydroxy terminated polybutadiene. The composition may be mixed with a polyisocyanate, e.g. polyphenylmethylene polyisocyanate, and then forms a composition suitable for coating substrates, e.g. pipes, and this may be in the form of a two-component pack. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,146,645.
