Abstract

149,499. Kelly, W. Dec. 20, 1919. Vertical-cutter type.-Relates to apparatus of the type in which a series of slitting-rings. 3 carried by spacing-blocks 4 rigidly mounted on one shaft 1 co-act with a series of splitting-rings 7 floatingly mounted on another shaft 2 to slit a web of paper &c. The invention consists in disposing between the floating rings 7 a series of circularly spaced helical springs 8 housed between the sections of the spacing-blocks 6. These springs act to maintain elastic contact between the rings 3 and 7, thereby giving the requisite amount of shear for webs of varying thicknesses.
