Abstract

1494812 Removal of the oxides of nitrogen and sulphur MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 14 June 1976 [19 Aug 1975] 24508/76 Heading C1A Nitrogen oxides and sulphur oxides are removed from exhaust gas by contacting with an absorbent slurry of lime or limestone containing an alkali metal iodide or an alkaline earth metal iodide; the oxides of sulphur are converted to gypsum which is separated out and removed from the system and a part, at least, of the remaining liquid is extracted and treated so as to decompose the nitrogen compounds present, these compounds are for example the calcium hydroxylamine salts and calcium salts of the sulphamine series, e.g. The decomposition of these nitrogen compounds may be achieved by heating, acid hydrolysis followed by heating or by the addition of a nitrite.
