Abstract

149,442. Moorhouse, W. May 14, 1919. Hollow-ware. - Coffins, funeral caskets, and other hollow articles are made from sheet metal by means of a former g and a hollow die f so arranged as to produce corrugations in the sides, ends and bottom of the coffin, and also to form on the sides and ends parts corresponding to the usual furniture mounts. The die f is built up of separate sides and ends. The blank 2 is pressed into the die f by the descent of a bridge piece v actuated by a plunger. The loose divided collar z is then removed and further descent of the plunger causes a bar u to actuate a number of dies k sliding in horizontal recesses in the former g, to produce the corrugations and other projections on the coffin. The dies k are operated by links q or bv dovetailed inclines o. Specification 149,906, [Class 18, Boxes &c.], which describes the coffin and its lid, is referred to.
