Abstract

1494207 Matrix displays AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 19 Nov 1974 50132/74 Heading G5C [Also in Division G2] In a display device comprising a matrix of selectively addressable electrochromic devices of the type comprising a persistently colourable material (e.g. WO 3 ) and an ion conductive layer disposed in series between electrode, each device is connected in parallel with a respective capacitor whereby an addressing voltage pulse having a length less than the turn-on time of the device may be effective to produce colouration in the device, enabling relatively rapid scanning of the matrix. The matrix may have an integral laminar construction and may be in the form of a plurality of seven segment arrangements or an X-Y dot matrix, Cross talk is prevented by incorporating in each "select" addressing conductor (as opposed to the scanned conductors) a pair of anti-parallel diodes.
