Abstract
1494202 Protecting motor installations SIEMENS AG 25 April 1974 [18 Jan 1974] 18239/74 Heading H2K In a method of monitoring a number of hysteresis or reluctance electric motors (2, 3, 4) each driving a low-friction centrifuge and fed together from an A.C. source, the angle (#, #) between the voltage (up, u) and current (i 1 , i 2 , i 3 ) of each motor is successively measured and compared with a predetermined limit value (#*, #*) and when the angle is below the predetermined limit an indicating signal s 1 is released and/or when thereabove a further indicating signal s 2 is released. The invention is particularly applied to hysteresis motors employed in a uranium-isotope separating gas centrifuge installation, and the limit value is that which separates asynchronous from synchronous operation. A 1 kc/s. A.C. supply with phase conductors U, V, W and neutral Mp is provided by a controlled frequency changer 14 energized from a conventional mains supply 15. Signal s 1 production indicates asynchronous operation and s 2 , synchronous operation; these signals may be applied to an indicating or alarm system. Digital phase measurement.-Voltage u is fed to a squarer 20 whose zero-crossings correspond to those of the sinusoidal input and the outputs of current transformers 22, 23, 24 are selectively fed via field-effect transistor switches to a similar squarer 32. A time-difference measuring circuit 21 affords a measure of phase displaced by 30 degrees (phase displacement due to placement of tap 18 and the arrangement of the current transformers) and a comparator 33 compares (#-30 degrees) with a predetermined value set by potentiometer 34. In a further, preferred, embodiment, the output of squarer 20 is fed to a device (40, Fig. 3, not shown) which introduces a delay controlled by the predetermined limit value and a NAND gate (42) is utilized as a comparator.
