Abstract

1494106 Tool holders for drills H REINHOLDT AS 10 Dec 1975 [13 Dec 1973] 53487/74 Heading B4C [Also in Division B3] A tool holder, especially for hammer drills 8, comprises a tubular member 2, which can be connected by shank 1 to a machine chuck, and a tightly-fitting elastic bush 4 of plastics material, surrounding the member 2 and engaging one or more locking pieces 3 extending through respective apertures in member 2 and lockingly engaging in recesses in the tool shank 7. Rotation of the bush brings recesses 5 on its inner surface into register with pieces 3 to allow the tool to be withdrawn. The bush may have a flange 9, to dispense drill dust, and a groove at its rear end which engages a collar 6 on member 2 to retain it and inhibit axial movement but allowing disassembly. Different shapes of locking pieces include elliptical, Fig. 2, having a groove 10 so that the pieces do not engage a corner of the tool shank; elliptical with one flat side, Fig. 3 (not shown), and generally elliptical with three flat sides on its inner face, Fig. 4 (not shown). The bush may have a surrounding rigid, e.g. steel, band at least in the area adjacent the locking pieces and other areas under stress, e.g. the recesses 5 may have embedded steel parts. The locking pieces may be of plastics material with embedded steel parts or may be of sintered metal with lubricant containing pores.
