1494053 Pipe connectors CARL-ZEISSSTIFTUNG [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN] 21 Oct 1975 [23 Oct 1974 1 March 1975] 43142/75 Heading F2G A rigid or flexible connector for joining, e.g. glass pipes having flanged ends with either planar or curved sealing faces comprises toroidal end seals 5 of substantially semi-circular section in the unstressed state made at least partially of elastic material and formed integrally with a body portion defining the bore of the connector. Rigid connector.-Fig. 4 shows a connector comprising a rigid metal tube of one part or several split rings 1a, 1b, 1c lined 2 with PTFE, the end portions 5 of which form the seals. One or more pipe clips 8 locate the split rings 1a, 1b, 1c. Separate slip-on flanges seating against the shoulders 13, 14 of the pipe ends may be used to bolt the pipe ends together or such flanges may form part of the connector itself. Flexible connector.-Fig. 6 shows a connector comprising split metal support rings 21 lined, 22, with PTFE that forms a bellows 26 in the middle. Pipe clips 8 may hold the split rings 21. Slip-on flanges 28 are used to secure the pipe ends to the connector. The bellows 26 and lining 22 may be of synthetic polymeric material. The pipe ends may be of glass, ceramic, stoneware, vitreous fused quartz, glass ceramic or plastics, or lined with any one of these materials. Values are given for seal cross-sectional radius as a function of pipe bore.
