Abstract
1493563 Terminals J G SPARGO C KIDSON and D L RISHWORTH 14 April 1976 [23 April 1975] 15378/76 Heading H2E A terminal comprises a base 16 and two resilient prongs which project from the base, one prong having a protuberance which abuts the other prong to form an interstice 34 bounded by the base, the protuberance and the prongs, the edges of the prongs being capable of removing insulation of a conductor pressed past the protuberance into the interstice. In an embodiment a terminal clip 10 is formed of resilient metal and has two oppositely disposed sets of prongs 12, 14 extending from a base portion 16 embedded in insulating material 36. Each set of prongs comprises three members 18, 20, 22 formed by shearing the metal to leave sharp edges forming initially two parallel sided gaps with the ends of the gaps flared at 23 and enlarged at 24, the centre prong 20 being stamped or coined at 32 to form protuberances which engage and force the outer prongs 18, 22 outwardly. In use an insulated conductor is placed in the flared gap 23 and forced into the clip past the protuberance 32 and into the interstice 34, insulation being sheared away by the sharp prong edges. Only one set of prongs need be provided, the coining or stamping may be effected on the outer prongs as well as or in addition to the centre prong and the clip may be provided at one end with a solder tag, wire wrap terminal, screw terminal or male push-on terminal.
