Abstract

1493134 Photopolymerizable compositions UCB 10 July 1975 [12 July 1974] 30939/74 Heading C3P Photopolymerizable compositions curable with ultraviolet light comprise (1) a binder which is the reaction product of (A) a di- and/or tri-isocyanate selected from (a) di- or triisocyanate derivatives of a dimerized or trimerized C 18 unsaturated monobasic fatty acid and (b) urethane prepolymers having 2 or 3 free isocyanate groups which are the reaction products of a diisocyanate and a di- or tri-ester of ricinoleic acid, and (B) an acrylate containing at least two CH 2 =CH-COO- radicals and at least one HO- group, the binder containing an average from 4 to 15 CH 2 = CH-COO- radicals per molecule; and (2) at least one photoinitiator and/or photosensitizer. Optional components include inert polymers, plasticizers, copolymerizable monomers, oligomers or polymers, pigments, fillers and other conventional additives for varnishes or inks. The compositions are useful as UV-curable printing inks and varnishes.
