Abstract

1492725 Treating metal in mould FIAT SpA 5 March 1976 [21 March 1975] 8966/76 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] In the production of S.C. iron the mould is formed with two or more intermediate chambers in series into each of which spheroidizing agent is placed. In all chambers except one the agent is covered with a solution retardant so that the agent is dissolved from each chamber in turn whereby effective spheroidization is maintained throughout the whole of the pouring time. The The retardant may be of cast iron, or an alloy containing #20% Fe, particularly Fe-Si, but preferably from steel sheet, and is of such characteristics that it dissolves in 70-90% of the time taken for the agent in the preceding cell to dissolve.
